Note | Before arriving in Australia John & Mary Taylor lived in Kneesworth, a tiny hamlet beside Bassingbourne in Cambridgeshire. They were Independents and John was an agricultural labourer. John & Mary Taylor arrived in Portland, Victoria, Australia on the 'Constant' in on 22 Sep1855. They were assisted migrants, bonded to William Hanley at Tallangatta, near Allansford. In 1862 he gained permission to occupy 70 acres in the Allansfor d area (at Mepunga) at 2/6 per acre. He called his farm 'Kneesworth'. In 1875 he was awarded a certificate for excellence in wheat, marigold, wierzal & onions at the Intercolonial Exhibition in Melbourne. He also got a certificate for excellenc e in beans at an exhibition in Amsterdam. |
